Ella Charlson is currently a high school senior at Pell City High School. Since moving to Pell City in the middle of 8th grade, she has created a passion for getting involved with the community, through JROTC and FBLA.
"I've never been an extroverted person, and making connections was difficult. That began to change when I discovered local community events like LakeFest and the Block Party," says Ella. "Through these experiences, I realized how beautiful and powerful a sense of community can be."
Her first full year in Pell City was as a high school freshman, and she joined the JROTC program. "Nothing has taught me the meaning of community like JROTC—it gave me confidence, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships." Today, she's honored to serve as the Battalion Commander, the highest-ranking cadet in her class.
"Now, I want to give back. My goal is to create opportunities for others—especially those who feel alone—to experience the same sense of belonging that changed my life," says Ella.
Ella is also a member of the Inaugural Class of the Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC), a student leadership initiative aimed at cultivating informed and civically-minded future leaders.
